In a historic move, Jahmyr Gibbs has secured a new three-year deal with the Detroit Lions, valued at up to $75.7m, making him the highest-paid running back in NFL history. The announcement came from his agents, Athletes First, on the same day Gibbs participated in his first training camp practice. The contract guarantees $51.5m for the Pro Bowler.
This development comes after Bijan Robinson briefly held the title of highest-paid running back. Gibbs, who changed his jersey number to 0 ahead of the 2025 season, had a remarkable year with 1,223 rushing yards, 13 touchdowns, 77 receptions, 616 yards, and five scores. Earlier, Jonathan Taylor signed a two-year, $44m deal, while Robinson agreed to a three-year extension worth up to $75m with the Falcons, which included a record $51m guaranteed portion for a running back.
However, Gibbs' new deal surpasses these records, cementing his position as the highest-paid running back in the NFL.
