In a closely contested match, Bayern Munich managed to hold off a late surge from Aston Villa to claim a 2-1 win in Hong Kong, wrapping up their pre-season tours of Asia. The Bundesliga champions seemed to be cruising after Min-Jae Kim's first-half header and Luis Diaz's goal off the bench gave them a two-goal lead with less than 10 minutes remaining at Kai Tak Stadium.
However, Joao Gomes' cleverly curved effort from outside the area, which evaded Manuel Neuer's outstretched arm, sparked a late fightback from Unai Emery's side. Two minutes later, Neuer pulled off an incredible save to deny Tammy Abraham's point-blank header. Despite Villa's late push for an equalizer, they fell short, allowing Bayern to extend their pre-season winning streak to three games. In contrast, Villa suffered their third defeat in six friendlies ahead of their Super Cup clash against Paris Saint-Germain on August 12 in Salzburg.
