The Huddersfield Giants, a prominent Betfred Super League team, have announced plans to leave their current location and relocate to Dewsbury, where they will play at the Flair Stadium starting from the 2027 season. This move is contingent upon approval from the RFL board and involves a significant investment of over £10 million to upgrade the stadium. The redevelopment will include the construction of a new stand, increasing the capacity from 5,000 to approximately 8,000 spectators, as well as renovations to fan concourses, hospitality suites, and player facilities.
The Giants have reached an agreement with the Dewsbury Rams, a Betfred Championship team, to share the facility, which will continue to host the Rams. This decision comes after a period of uncertainty for the Giants, who have been seeking a permanent location in the Huddersfield area. Owner Ken Davy OBE expressed his commitment to finding a long-term home for the team in Huddersfield, but stated that the Flair Stadium will serve as a suitable medium-term solution. The team's executive chairman, Ralph Rimmer OBE, emphasized the importance of enhancing the matchday experience for fans, while non-executive director Rebecca Jackson highlighted the need for significant investment to bring the stadium up to Super League standards.
