Justin Langer, the former Australian head coach, has expressed interest in the vacant England Test head coach position, despite not having been contacted by the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB). Langer, who led Australia to a 2-2 Ashes draw in England in 2019 and a 4-0 win in the return series in 2021-22, believes that the England, India, and Australia coaching jobs are the most prestigious in the sport. He stated, 'It's a career, and everyone looks at all opportunities.' Langer's comments come after Brendon McCullum was removed as England's Test head coach following a run of seven defeats in nine matches.
Although Langer has been linked to the role, The Telegraph reports that he is not on the ECB's shortlist, and he himself claims to have not been contacted. Langer emphasized the importance of Test cricket, saying, 'I'm passionate about the game of cricket, but particularly Test cricket.
We've got to have Test cricket; it must keep thriving for the health of the game.' He also shared his thoughts on the split coaching role, stating that it can work if the right people are in place, but it can also be complicated, especially with the presence of T20 cricket.
