Newcastle is poised to unveil Matthias Jaissle as their new head coach, following the confirmation of Eddie Howe's exit. The club has reached an agreement with Saudi side Al Ahli to pay £9.5m in compensation for Jaissle. The German coach, formerly of Red Bull Salzburg, will sign a four-year contract with the Magpies.
Jaissle is expected to meet his new players in Spain on Saturday at their training camp in La Manga. His appointment comes after Newcastle officially announced Howe's departure, with the club having ensured the Jaissle deal was in place before making the announcement. Jaissle's first match in charge will be a pre-season friendly against Valencia.
Meanwhile, Howe reflected on his time at Newcastle, stating it was the 'privilege of his lifetime' to have managed the club. He ended the Magpies' 70-year wait for domestic silverware with Carabao Cup glory and oversaw qualification for the Champions League twice. Newcastle chief executive David Hopkinson thanked Howe for his 'outstanding service and leadership', wishing him and his family success and happiness in the future.
The club has also agreed to activate the £25.7m release clause for Braga's Lukas Hornicek, who will become their first-choice goalkeeper.
