Cameron Young, ranked third in the world, has surged into a share of the lead at the Rocket Classic in Detroit after achieving a remarkable nine-under 61 in the second round. This impressive bogey-free round propelled Young 68 spots up the leaderboard to 10 under, where he is now tied with Patrick Cantlay and Patrick Fishburn. With seven birdies on his front nine, Young came close to joining Jim Furyk as the second player to achieve two career sub-60 rounds.
"It felt like I had a 10-footer for birdie on nearly every hole. I made several in a row on my first nine," Young explained. "Then my putter cooled down a bit on my second nine. It was really solid golf throughout.
I'm happy to have played my way back into the tournament after Thursday." Young, now the favorite heading into the weekend, aims to continue his recent form, which saw him finish as runner-up at The Open two weeks ago. Despite winning The Players Championship and Cadillac Championship earlier this year, Young has struggled to maintain a streak of strong results. He will face stiff competition, including England's Matt Wallace, who is only one shot behind after his own bogey-free round of 64, and Rickie Fowler, who shares the same overall score of nine under. The third round of the Rocket Classic will be broadcast live on Sky Sports Golf on Saturday from 7pm.
