Warrington Wolves have risen to fourth place in the Betfred Super League standings after overcoming a sluggish start to secure a convincing 48-18 victory over Castleford Tigers. Following a string of four losses in their last six matches, including three consecutive away defeats, Warrington initially struggled, with Castleford taking a 16-6 lead after 20 minutes.
However, a turnaround ensued as Matty Ashton, Toby King, and Toafofoa Sipley scored, propelling Warrington to a 24-18 lead at halftime. James Harrison and Leon Hayes further extended the Wolves' advantage after the break.
Ashton added another try, bringing his total to five in two matches against Castleford this year, while Ben Currie also scored. Teenage scrum-half Ewan Irwin excelled with his kicking, successfully converting all eight attempts, as Castleford suffered their second consecutive defeat. Meanwhile, Oli Field's double helped York edge out St Helens 34-32, despite Jack Welsby's impressive try, dealing a blow to Saints' play-off aspirations. Wakefield Trinity, on the other hand, moved back into second place in the Super League table with a 32-12 win over Catalans Dragons, courtesy of Isaiah Vagana's crucial double.
The match was closely contested until Vagana's quick tries changed the game's momentum, ultimately sealing the win for Wakefield.
