Aaron McKenna is confident that capturing the middleweight title will unlock opportunities for high-profile bouts against boxing's biggest names. McKenna's long-awaited world title fight takes place on Saturday, live on Sky Sports, as he faces Etinosa Oliha for the IBF championship at Dublin's 3Arena. "This is a dream come true, something I've envisioned since I first laced up my boxing gloves at six years old. Fighting for the world title in Ireland makes it an even more special occasion," McKenna shared with Sky Sports.
"The thought of competing in front of an electric Irish crowd gives me goosebumps. After two decades of dedication, it all comes down to this moment." A victory, according to McKenna, would position him for more prominent fights. "My goal is to become the undisputed champion and then explore multiple weight classes. Given my height, I believe I can compete at heavyweight.
However, my immediate focus is on dominating the middleweight division and securing the biggest fights possible," he explained. McKenna expressed interest in facing Chris Eubank Jr, suggesting that a win for the Eubank name in Ireland could be an attractive storyline. "I'm 100 per cent confident it can happen," he stated.
"If Eubank Jr wants to recreate history, similar to his father's fight against Steve Collins in Cork, we can make it happen in Ireland on Sky Sports." McKenna acknowledged that Oliha poses a significant challenge, describing him as a strong and game opponent. Nevertheless, McKenna's faith in his own abilities remains unwavering. "I know exactly what I need to do, and I'm more than prepared for this fight.
Becoming world champion has always been my primary objective, and I've always believed I have what it takes to achieve it. On August 8, winning the title will undoubtedly open doors to new opportunities," he added. The highly anticipated fight between Aaron McKenna and Etinosa Oliha for the IBF world middleweight title will take place in Dublin on Saturday, live on Sky Sports.
