SunRisers Leeds has kept their slim chances of advancing from The Hundred group stage alive after securing a nail-biting five-wicket win over London Spirit at Headingley. London Spirit set a target of 136-7 after being put in to bat, but the Australian duo of Phoebe Litchfield, who scored 30 from 17, and Annabel Sutherland, who remained unbeaten on 37 from 21, guided the SunRisers to victory with two balls to spare. The Spirit got off to a strong start with the bat, but the SunRisers eventually claimed their first wicket when Amy Jones hit Dani Gibson into the hands of Kate Cross at 68 for one.

Despite a 30-minute rain delay and the loss of key wickets, including that of Grace Harris, who surpassed her half-century, London Spirit finished their innings at 136 for seven. In response, Phoebe Litchfield and Bryony Smith also impressed at the top of the order for the SunRisers, making it seem like they would easily chase down the target.

However, the Spirit fought back into the contest by claiming three wickets in six balls, including those of Litchfield, Smith, and Lauren Winfield-Hill, leaving the hosts needing 78 from 59. As the SunRisers closed in on victory, they lost the wickets of Gibson and Deepti Sharma, creating some late drama.

But a series of shots from Jess Jonassen and Sutherland took the hosts close to the finish line, with Sutherland's six ultimately sealing the win. Sutherland, who was named the Meerkat Match Hero, said, 'It's nice to get the win.

Jess came out with real clarity and has a beautiful swing of the bat. It was nice to see a few go to the rope from her.

Personally, I just feel pretty level. I feel like I'm coming into different situations and adapting pretty well.

But ultimately, you want to be part of winning performances, and hopefully, we can win the next few and build some momentum.' The result moves the SunRisers up to fourth in the table, but they trail the third-placed Manchester Super Giants by six points, having played the same number of games. The Spirit, on the other hand, drops to sixth, and their hopes of advancing to the knockout stages seem to be all but over.

The Hundred continues with a double-header on Wednesday, featuring Manchester Super Giants against Welsh Fire and Trent Rockets against Birmingham Phoenix. Every match of The Hundred can be watched through to the finals on Sunday, August 16, contract-free on NOW.
