Katie Boulter's strong start was short-lived as she fell 3-6, 6-2, 6-2 to Ashlyn Krueger in the DC Open's first round. Meanwhile, Cameron Norrie halted his six-match losing streak on the ATP Tour, defeating Aleksandar Kovacevic 6-4, 6-1 in the Mifel Tennis Open. Boulter dominated the opening set, breaking Krueger twice, but the American rebounded, committing fewer errors and breaking Boulter twice in the second set. The final set was closely contested, with Krueger eventually prevailing, breaking Boulter three times to secure the win.
Krueger will face Naomi Osaka in the next round. Norrie's victory over Kovacevic marked a significant turnaround, as he had struggled to hold serve early on.
However, he regained his footing, saving break points and ultimately winning in straight sets. Norrie will face either Aidan Mayo or Jamie Duckworth in the second round.
