Emma Raducanu has been ruled out of the US Open due to a stress fracture in her right lower leg, an injury she sustained during the grass-court season. The British No 1 had made a late withdrawal from Wimbledon and, following consultation with her medical team, has now concluded that she will be unable to participate in the New York tournament later this month.

This decision comes as no surprise given the nature of the injury, which has forced Raducanu to take her first tentative steps back on court wearing a protective boot. The past 12 months have been frustrating for the 23-year-old, who has struggled with persistent physical issues. Having made positive progress last summer, including winning her first matches at Flushing Meadows since lifting the trophy five years ago, Raducanu's recent setbacks have been a blow.

A foot injury severely hampered her pre-season training, and she then spent two-and-a-half months off court with a post-viral illness. Raducanu finally returned for the end of the clay-court season, having rehired Andrew Richardson, the coach who guided her to the US Open title. However, their time on court together has been limited.

Raducanu enjoyed one of the best weeks of her career by reaching her biggest final since New York at Queen's Club in June, but this effort triggered her latest setback. With her current ranking of 49 set to slide, there are question marks over whether Raducanu will compete again in 2026. Despite her injury, Raducanu posted an upbeat message on Instagram, calling her break in Switzerland the "best reset ever", and featured a video of her practicing serves with a protective boot on her right foot.
