Joe Cordina, the 34-year-old former two-time IBF super-featherweight champion, has pleaded not guilty to two counts of assault by beating. The charges stem from an incident that took place outside a service station in Cardiff on February 27. Cordina appeared in court alongside Jamie O'Brien, who is also facing assault charges in connection with the same incident.
According to the court, the alleged offenses are against each other. Cordina's lawyer stated that the second assault charge is part of a single, ongoing incident. A trial date has been set for October 13, and Cordina has been granted unconditional bail. This development comes as Cordina was set to compete for the WBO lightweight title in the US, but his visa application was denied.
