Former world boxing champion Joe Cordina has entered a plea of not guilty to allegations of assault. The 34-year-old, a two-time IBF super-featherweight titleholder, appeared at Cardiff Magistrates' Court, where he denied two counts of assault by beating.
The charges are related to an incident that occurred outside a service station in Cardiff on February 27. Cordina appeared in court alongside co-defendant Jamie O'Brien, who is also facing assault charges in connection with the same incident. According to the court, the alleged offenses are said to have been committed against each other.
Cordina's lawyer, Nadeem Majid, stated that the second assault charge against his client stems from a single, ongoing incident. A trial date has been set for October 13, with Cordina being granted unconditional bail until then. The case has impacted Cordina's upcoming fight schedule, including a cancelled bout for the WBO lightweight title in the US, which was scheduled for July 4, after his US visa application was denied.
