Dundee United manager Jim Goodwin is urging his team to play without fear as they prepare to face Rangers in their Scottish Premiership season opener at Tannadice Park. The match, which will be live on Sky Sports, marks Derek McInnes' first competitive game in charge of Rangers.
Goodwin, who has previously managed against McInnes during his time at Aberdeen and Hearts, does not expect any surprises from the Rangers team. "I've faced Derek McInnes' teams many times before, and while Rangers have talented players, our approach must be fearless," Goodwin said. "We need to set the tone early and make the most of this opportunity to make a statement in front of our home supporters." Dundee United have made nine summer signings as they aim to improve on last season's seventh-place finish. Goodwin's objective is to secure a top-six spot as early as possible and compete for European places.
"We're hoping to achieve a strong finish this season, similar to our fourth-place finish in my second season here, and make a push for European competition," he added.
