Following his impressive performance at the Open at Royal Birkdale, Australian golfer Lucas Herbert made history with a record-setting win at the LIV Golf UK event in Staffordshire. Herbert, who finished sixth in the men's major, trailed champion Ryan Fox by four shots, but went on to claim the LIV trophy in Rocester with a remarkable score of 30 under par.
This achievement marked the lowest winning score since the circuit's inception in 2022, leaving him six strokes ahead of Tyrrell Hatton and nine strokes clear of Bryson DeChambeau. Herbert also broke LIV records for most birdies in a tournament, with 30, and most combined birdies and eagles, with 32, after carding a blemish-free 62 on Sunday.
He began the event with an 11-under 61, featuring 10 birdies and an eagle, and his worst round was a three-under 69 on Saturday. Herbert had previously shot an eight-under 62 in the Open's second round and stated after his victory, his second LIV season win after triumphing in Virginia in May, "I aimed to carry my previous performance into this week." He added, "It was great to play like that today, especially with two of the world's best players pushing me." Hatton, who carded a nine-under 63 on Sunday, said, "I wanted a fast start, but unfortunately, Lucas did too." He continued, "Although it would have been amazing to win in front of home fans, I gave it my best shot. Lucas was incredible this week."
