Following his retirement from international cricket, former England captain Ben Stokes made a stunning return to the field, scoring an unbeaten 108 for Durham in the Metro Bank One-Day Cup. This century, his 10th in List A cricket and first for Durham since 2014, guided his team to a five-wicket victory over Derbyshire.
Stokes' impressive innings included 10 boundaries and three sixes, despite struggling with cramp towards the end. Earlier, Martin Andersson top-scored for Derbyshire with 112, setting a target of 257 for Durham.
Stokes, who had gone wicketless in his nine overs, then led his team from trouble at 24-2, forming crucial partnerships with Will Rhodes, Colin Ackermann, and Ollie Robinson. His half-century was marked by a four off Nick Potts, after which he received treatment for cramp.
Despite this, Stokes powered through to a 116-ball hundred, securing victory for Durham in the final over.
