George Russell has been forced to switch to his fourth power unit of the season after a water leak occurred during the qualifying session for the Hungarian Grand Prix. The issue arose when Russell drove over the kerb at Turn 4, causing a crack in the engine and subsequent water leak. Despite this, he will not incur a grid penalty as the new power unit is of the same specification and does not exceed the season limit of four engines. Russell qualified seventh but will start sixth due to a penalty given to his teammate.
The British driver is 50 points behind his teammate in the championship standings and is hoping to make up ground during the race. Mercedes has fixed a software bug that affected Russell's performance in the previous race and is optimistic about his chances.
