Fresh from a remarkable performance at the Open in Royal Birkdale, Australian golfer Lucas Herbert made history with a record-breaking win at the LIV Golf event in the UK, held in Staffordshire. Following his sixth-place tie at the Open, where he trailed champion Ryan Fox by four strokes, Herbert went on to claim the LIV trophy in Rocester with an unprecedented score of 30 under par. This achievement not only set a new record for the lowest winning score since the circuit's inception in 2022 but also saw him finish six strokes ahead of Tyrrell Hatton and nine strokes clear of Bryson DeChambeau. Herbert's impressive display included setting new LIV records for the most birdies in a single tournament, with 30, and the most combined birdies and eagles, totaling 32, after carding a flawless 10-under 62 on Sunday.
His tournament began with an 11-under 61, featuring 10 birdies and an eagle, and his least impressive round was a three-under 69 on Saturday. Reflecting on his victory, his second LIV season win after his triumph in Virginia in May, Herbert noted his intention to build upon his eight-under 62 performance in the Open's second round earlier in the month.
"My goal was to maintain that form into this week as much as possible," he said. "It was great to perform under pressure from two of the world's best players." Tyrrell Hatton, who carded a nine-under 63 on Sunday, praised Herbert's incredible form, stating, "I aimed for a strong start, which I achieved, but unfortunately, Lucas did the same. Winning in front of my home crowd would have been fantastic, but I gave it my all.
