This triumph marks his third major win on the PGA Tour Champions, adding to his previous successes at the Senior Players Championship. Kelly's final round was highlighted by a birdie at the last hole, which he achieved after recovering from a greenside bunker, to finish with a total score of 10 under par. His round consisted of a two-under 68, featuring three birdies on the front nine and bogeys at the sixth and 11th holes.
Kelly, now 59 years old, has secured a spot at the 155th Open at St Andrews next year with this win. Overcome with emotion, Kelly expressed his desire to win the senior Claret Jug, stating it as the most coveted trophy for him as a golfer over 50, and he is thrilled to have achieved this feat in Scotland, the home of golf. Kelly will now join the field at St Andrews, further solidifying his career achievements.
Meanwhile, Cameron Percy, who shared the lead with Kelly after 54 holes, struggled to maintain his pace over the weekend, ultimately sharing second place with Darren Fichardt and Matt Gogel. Gogel carded an impressive seven-under 63 in the final round.
Scotland's Stephen Gallacher delivered a notable performance, signing for an eight-under 62 to claim the round of the day and finishing as the highest European golfer, just behind the leaders.
