Welcome to the second edition of my Captain's Corner! This season I will be chronicling my experience as the captain of Team Europe for the Solheim Cup, a competition that will make its debut in the Netherlands from September 7th to 13th.
The journey will be documented from the very start of the campaign right through to the final matches, giving fans an inside look at the preparation, the challenges, and the excitement that builds as the event approaches. The golf calendar is already in full swing. We have just wrapped up the first major of the year, the Chevron Championship in Texas, where a large contingent of European players performed admirably.
Their strong showings have already begun to shift the Rolex Rankings, and the early-season movement suggests that the race for Solheim Cup points will be fiercely contested. With three more majors looming on the horizon, each offering a higher points haul, the battle to secure a spot on the European team is intensifying.
For those who want to stay up‑to‑date with the latest news, video highlights, feature stories and in‑depth analysis, I recommend following Sky Sports on WhatsApp. Their platform delivers a steady stream of content that keeps fans connected to every twist and turn of the season. A quick technical note: for the best viewing experience of any video content I share, please use the Chrome browser. It provides a more accessible player and ensures that all multimedia elements load smoothly.
Last week, during the Chevron Championship, we welcomed the PING Europe apparel team to conduct the first potential fitting for player and caddie attire. This marks the initial step in what will become a series of fittings leading up to the Solheim Cup. Over the past three editions of the tournament, I have worked closely with the PING Europe design and production crew, and that partnership has proven to be incredibly efficient. Their willingness to listen to our feedback, tweak silhouettes, and adjust fabrics means we can tailor the final wardrobe to the exact preferences of the team.
Although the complete outfits will remain a surprise until the squad arrives in the Netherlands, I was given a sneak peek of the accessories, materials, colour palettes and design concepts we have selected. From sleek performance polos to weather‑ready jackets, every piece has been chosen with both function and style in mind.
In addition to the core clothing, we have also brainstormed a few fun surprises—special pins, custom‑embroidered caps and even a limited‑edition scarf that will be unveiled during the event. We are now in the final stages of confirming the official attire for two key moments: the Gala Dinner on Wednesday of Solheim Cup week and the Opening Ceremony that will kick off the competition.
Both occasions call for a more formal look, and we are collaborating with a Dutch design firm to create ensembles that reflect the host nation's heritage while still embodying the spirit of Team Europe. I can already tell my vice‑captains, Mel and Carro, that there will be no dresses this year, which should bring them a sigh of relief.
Behind the scenes, the work never stops. I am constantly in touch with players, caddies, and support staff via Zoom, which has become one of my most used tools for coordinating logistics, discussing fitting results, and sharing updates about travel arrangements. The conversation about the Solheim Cup dominates every meeting; it’s rare to talk to anyone in the golf world without the tournament being mentioned at least once. Balancing my duties as a touring professional with the responsibilities of captain has been a whirlwind.
Fortunately, I have received tremendous backing from the Ladies European Tour, the LPGA, and my management team, all of whom have helped me navigate this dual role. Being on the road with the players gives me a unique perspective and reinforces why I accepted the captaincy in the first place. I get to sit close to the action, watch the competitors from inside the ropes, and build personal connections that go beyond the usual professional interactions.
Looking ahead, there is much more to share. In upcoming Captain's Corner entries I will dive deeper into the selection process, reveal more details about the custom gear, and provide exclusive behind‑the‑scenes glimpses of the team’s preparation. Stay tuned for more insights, anecdotes, and updates as we count down to what promises to be a historic Solheim Cup in the Netherlands. Anna Nordqvist’s column was supplied by the Ladies European Tour ahead of the Solheim Cup, which will be broadcast live from September 11‑13 on Sky Sports.
