Sky Sports, in collaboration with its official innovation partner Audi, has unveiled a groundbreaking series that merges real-world driving with Audi's state-of-the-art R26 simulation technology, offering a unique storytelling experience from the racing circuit. At the core of 'Flying Lap' lies Audi's cutting-edge simulation technology, which seamlessly integrates the brand into the narrative of performance.
By combining Audi Sim data with Sky Sports' world-class production, the series brings fans closer to the technical and physical challenges of the circuit than ever before. Hosted by Sky Sports pundit and former Formula 1 driver Karun Chandhok, each episode features the driver navigating an iconic track in a high-performance Audi road car, delivering an adrenaline-fueled lap guide enriched with immersive data visualization. As the driver navigates the circuit, viewers are guided through key sections of the track inside the high-performance all-new Audi RS5, with highlighted hotspots.
At pivotal moments, the experience transitions smoothly into a fully rendered virtual environment, where an Audi R26 F1 car comes to life. Within this graphical world, Audi's simulation data is utilized to break down the intricacies of elite performance, including braking zones, racing lines, gear changes, cornering speeds, and overtaking opportunities. The camera dynamically moves around the virtual car, offering perspectives that were previously impossible, from exterior angles to the driver's cockpit.
The format then seamlessly transitions back to real-world driving, maintaining continuity as the Sky Sports driver progresses through the lap, creating a cohesive fusion of physical and digital storytelling. The inaugural 'Flying Lap' episode takes on Miami, one of the fastest and most technically demanding circuits on the calendar, while the second episode heads to the iconic Silverstone in Great Britain. Launching across Sky Sports platforms from May 2026, 'Flying Lap' represents the next evolution of the Sky Sports and Audi Innovation partnership, pushing the boundaries of broadcast innovation and creating new opportunities for storytelling beyond live coverage.
