The accident occurred during the Rallye de Wallonie, where Jos lost control of the vehicle and collided with a tree on the Loyers special stage, prompting his retirement from the event. The incident was confirmed by the Rallye des Wallonie through their social media channels.
As the current national rally champion at 54, Jos Verstappen had been in third place before the accident, which was described as a violent departure from the road. Fortunately, both Jos Verstappen and his co-driver, Jasper Vermeulen, escaped the crash without harm, although the vehicle sustained significant damage.
Notably, Verstappen was competing with a different co-driver, as his usual partner, Renaud Jamoul, was unable to participate due to an ankle surgery.
