Nelly Korda delivered a commanding, front-to-back triumph at The Chevron Championship, held at Memorial Park Golf Course, on Sunday, capturing her third major championship and finishing five strokes ahead of both Ruoning Yin and Patty Tavatanakit. The 27‑year‑old American dominated every round, posting a total of 18‑under par for the tournament, a score that propels her past Jeeno Thitikul to the summit of the Rolex Women’s Golf Rankings. Korda’s performance was so overwhelming that she entered the final round already tied with the tournament’s 54‑hole low‑score record, maintaining a five‑stroke cushion over the rest of the field.
"That was a hard weekend," Korda admitted after her win. "Honestly, having that big of a lead, it's not easy. It was definitely one of the hardest things I've had to do mentally." She credited her success to a strong support network, saying, "I have an amazing support system.
An amazing family who are right behind me. An amazing caddie who is on the bag. And I'm just happy to get it done." Her opening three holes put her two under par, establishing an early advantage that Yin and Tavatanakit struggled to close.
Earlier in the week Korda had been working on her short‑game, returning to the practice green after round three to sharpen her putting. Those efforts paid off, even though she missed a couple of birdie chances on Sunday – a missed birdie putt on the second hole and another on the par‑five eighth. A bogey on the 12th after a two‑putt gave her rivals a brief glimmer of hope, but Korda quickly regained composure. She responded with a string of birdies on holes 13 and 14, pushing her score to 19‑under and putting her on pace to match Dottie Pepper’s historic low total of 269.
While a birdie on the 17th would have eclipsed that record, Korda seemed unfazed, smiling as she approached the final tee. On the 18th she hit a precise approach shot onto the green and calmly sank a long par putt to seal the victory.
Reflecting on the win, Korda said, "Honestly, what I was telling myself is, 'I really want to hoist this trophy because I want to show the kids at home that it's OK to miss short putts and still win a major championship.' You're going to make mistakes, but you still have to be at 100 per cent. That's really what I wanted to show. I wanted to show it to everyone looking up to me." This triumph marks Korda’s second LPGA Tour win of the 2026 season, following her early‑year victory at the Hilton Grand Vacations Tournament of Champions in January. The win underscores a strong start to her campaign, positioning her as a leading contender for the remainder of the season.
Patty Tavatanakit of Thailand began the final day five strokes behind Korda, sitting at 11‑under. She fought hard to reduce the margin, but ultimately posted a three‑under‑par round, finishing well short of the leader. England’s Charley Hull broke into the top ten after 15 holes, yet bogeys on the 16th and 17th dropped her back to even par for the day, leaving her tied for 10th place.
Looking ahead, the LPGA Tour will travel to Playa del Carmen for the Mexico Riviera Maya Open at Mayakoba. All four rounds of that event will be broadcast live on Sky Sports, with the opening round scheduled to start at 3 p.m.
on Thursday via Sky Sports+.
