Ahead of the Cadillac Championship in Miami, Scheffler was asked if the PGA of America had consulted him about potential captain candidates.

"No, I have no input at all," Scheffler replied. "I only learned about it when the announcement was made." When pressed about whether he would like to be consulted, Scheffler said, "If they want my opinion, they can call me.

The Ryder Cup is run by the PGA of America, not the PGA Tour and not the players, so any input would have to come from the organization. I filled out a lot of paperwork just to get into the tournament, so I have their contact information if they need me." He also noted that Team USA operates a Ryder Cup committee composed of three PGA of America executives and three PGA Tour players. Among those players, Scheffler identified Jordan Spieth as a member and said he would reach out to Spieth for more insight about the committee's work.

Furyk, who first appeared at a Ryder Cup in 1997, has been involved in the event for three decades, either as a competitor or in a leadership capacity. As a player he participated in nine straight Cups from 1997 through 2014, winning only two of those matches.

Scheffler, who made his own Ryder Cup debut at Whistling Straits in 2021, played under Furyk’s captaincy during the 2024 Presidents Cup and offered high praise for the veteran's leadership style. "Jim and his wife Tabitha are wonderful people," he said. "Jim is an excellent leader—he’s incredibly organized and brings a wealth of experience from countless team events, whether as a player or a captain. He’s been on those teams for what feels like forever, and his long career gives him a deep understanding of what it takes to succeed.

He’s served as both captain and assistant captain in past Ryder Cups, so his knowledge and approach will be invaluable. I think he’ll do a fantastic job." I’m excited to go to Shinnecock this year and hope I can make it happen." He reflected on his journey, noting, "Growing up, you always have dreams. I dreamed of playing on the PGA Tour, of winning majors, The Players Championship, and other big events.

Now I get to live that dream every week, competing in tournaments. The competition itself is one of my favorite things in the world." Scheffler also spoke about the importance of rhythm and schedule management for sustained performance. "I wish I could play my best every single week, but I have to build a cadence into my schedule. To be at my peak physically and mentally, I need to balance rest and competition.

That’s why I plan my weeks carefully, especially leading up to big events like the U.S. Open." As the Cadillac Championship approaches, the question remains who will emerge victorious.
