Allyson Felix, the world's most decorated female track and field athlete, has revealed plans to come out of retirement with the aim of competing in the Los Angeles 2028 Olympics at the age of 42. A native of Los Angeles, Felix would be participating in her sixth Olympic Games if she qualifies. Having retired after the 2021 Tokyo Olympics with an impressive 11 Olympic medals, Felix was drawn back by the prospect of competing in a home Games.
In a recent interview with TIME magazine, Felix expressed her desire to defy expectations, stating, "Why not? Let's flip it on its head. Let's go after the thing. Let's be vulnerable." Felix aspires to experience the electric atmosphere of competing in a home Olympics, saying, "When I was competing, you just heard this roar for host-country athletes at the Olympics.
I would love to experience that." However, her spot at the Los Angeles Games is far from guaranteed, as she will need to navigate the fiercely competitive US track and field qualification system.
