Chelsea is considering Andoni Iraola, Marco Silva, and Xabi Alonso as potential replacements for Liam Rosenior. The club anticipates a larger pool of high-caliber managers will be available this summer compared to the last appointment. When Enzo Maresca was appointed in June 2024, Kieran McKenna was the other candidate, and neither had Premier League experience at the time.
Now, Chelsea prefers a manager with Premier League experience or a proven track record at a high level. Iraola is leaving Bournemouth, Alonso is currently unemployed, and Silva's Fulham contract expires in two months.
Chelsea is not rushing to make an appointment, and Calum McFarlane will remain in charge until the end of the season. Paul Merson believes the club will not attract a top-tier manager, instead, they will have to settle for someone who is grateful for the opportunity to manage Chelsea.
Merson thinks the days of big-name managers like Jose Mourinho and Carlo Ancelotti are over for Chelsea.
