Scottie Scheffler explained that he would be willing to share his thoughts on the selection of future Team USA Ryder Cup captains if the PGA of America approached him for advice. The current captain, Jim Furyk, was confirmed on Friday as the leader for the 2027 competition at Adare Manor. Furyk, who captured the U.S. Open title in 2003, previously captained the American side in 2018, a year when Europe prevailed in Paris.

Tiger Woods had been the leading candidate to replace Keegan Bradley, but he withdrew his name after deciding to step away from competitive golf following his March car accident. With Woods out of the picture, the PGA of America moved swiftly to name Furyk, now 55, to the role. He now faces the daunting challenge of guiding a U.S. team that is eager to rebound after consecutive losses on foreign soil in Rome and New York.

There has been growing speculation about whether Furyk is the optimal choice to restore American dominance. Ahead of the Cadillac Championship in Miami, Scheffler was asked if the PGA of America had ever consulted him about potential captain candidates. Scheffler replied that he had not been consulted at all, saying, "No, I have no input at all.

I found out when you did." When pressed about whether he would like to have a say, Scheffler answered, "If they want me to have input, then I can have input. But the PGA of America runs the Ryder Cup, not the PGA Tour, not the players, not us.

So if they want my opinion, they have my phone number, I'm sure. I had to fill out a bunch of forms to play in the tournament." The United States Ryder Cup committee consists of three PGA of America executives and three PGA Tour players.

Scheffler noted that Jordan Spieth is one of the player representatives and said he would reach out to Spieth for insight about the committee in the future. Furyk first appeared at the biennial event in 1997 and has been involved in every Ryder Cup over the past three decades, either as a competitor or in a leadership capacity. As a player, he participated in nine straight Cups from 1997 through 2014, winning only two of those meetings. Scheffler, who made his Ryder Cup debut at Whistling Straits in 2021, played under Furyk’s leadership during the 2024 Presidents Cup and praised the veteran’s organizational skills and experience.

"Jim and his wife Tabitha are really great people," Scheffler said. "Jim is a very strong leader.

He’s extremely organized in the way he does things. He has so much experience across team events, whether playing or captaining. He’s been on those teams forever, had a long career, and served as both captain and assistant captain on Ryder Cups. He brings a lot of knowledge and a clear method to the table, and I think he’ll do a great job." Scheffler entered the week at Trump National Doral after narrowly missing out on victories at both the Masters and the RBC Heritage.

He fell just one stroke short of Rory McIlroy at Augusta and then lost a playoff to Matt Fitzpatrick at Harbour Town. After missing the top‑20 at The Players Championship and the Arnold Palmer Invitational, the four‑time major winner appears to have rediscovered his form. He is now the favorite to win the Cadillac Championship, especially since both Fitzpatrick and McIlroy have opted to skip the event. Looking ahead, Scheffler is expected to take a brief break after the Cadillac Championship to prepare for the PGA Championship, which will be televised live on Sky Sports from May 11‑17.

However, the primary focus for many will shift to Shinnecock Hills a month later, where Scheffler has a chance to complete the career Grand Slam by capturing the U.S. Open.

When asked about his aspirations for the U.S. Open, Scheffler said, "I would love to win the U.S.

Open. It’s a tournament I love.

I love my country, and I would love to win my national open. I’ve had some success there before and the course suits my style of play.

I’m excited to go to Shinnecock this year and hopefully get it done." He reflected on his journey, noting, "Growing up, you always have dreams and aspirations. I dreamed of playing on the PGA Tour, of having chances to win majors, The Players Championship, and other events. I get to live my dream playing tournaments and competing, and competition is one of my favorite things in the world. Playing competitive golf on the PGA Tour is so much fun.

I wish I could play my best every week, but I have to build a cadence into my schedule to stay at my peak physically and mentally." The Cadillac Championship will feature four rounds broadcast live on Sky Sports, with the opening round starting at 4 p.m. on Thursday. Fans can watch the tournament via Sky Sports Golf or stream without a contract.

The event promises high‑stakes drama as Scheffler seeks to add another title to his résumé while also positioning himself for a potential U.S. Open triumph later in the season.
