Alex Clapham's coaching career has taken him to some of the biggest clubs in the world, including Borussia Dortmund, Getafe, and Vasco da Gama. He shares his story of how he got there, from playing on muddy pitches in northern England to becoming a set-piece coach for some of the top teams in Europe.
Clapham's journey began when he decided to pursue a career in coaching at the age of 23, which led him to Spain, where he earned his coaching badges and learned from some of the best coaches in the world. He worked his way up the ranks, coaching at various clubs, including Getafe's U19 team, before becoming a set-piece coach for Borussia Dortmund. Clapham's time at Dortmund was an eye-opener, working with some of the best players in the world, including Nico Schlotterbeck and Karim Adeyemi.
He learned valuable lessons about dynamics, managing staff, and coaching the coaches. Clapham's experiences have taken him to different parts of the world, from Brazil to Italy, and he is now eyeing his next adventure. With his broad interests and passion for coaching, Clapham sees a future beyond being a set-piece coach and is looking to take the next step in his career, possibly as an assistant manager.
