Norwich City's improbable push for a Championship playoff spot came to an end after they were held to a 1-1 draw by Swansea City at Carrow Road. Needing a victory to keep their slim chances alive, the Canaries fell behind early in the second half when Zan Vipotnik scored his 25th goal of the season from the penalty spot. Kenny McLean equalized with another penalty in the 83rd minute, but the home team, who were in the bottom three at the start of the year, were unable to find a winner. From the outset, Norwich dominated the match, with Lawrence Vigouroux making an excellent diving save to deny Mo Toure's low drive in the 14th minute.
The Swans took the lead against the run of play after being awarded a penalty, which Vipotnik calmly converted. As the game entered its final stages, Norwich struggled to make an impact until the game's second penalty kick gave them a way back in. McLean blasted home from 12 yards after Vigouroux fouled Mathias Kvistgaarden, giving the Canaries seven minutes plus added time to keep their season alive. Despite McLean almost scoring again moments later, there was to be no dramatic winner.
Norwich manager Philippe Clement reflected on the season, saying, 'In all my time in football management, it has been one of the most amazing turnarounds. The way the players and staff have reacted to the challenge in front of them gives me a lot of ambition for the future.' Swansea's Vitor Matos expressed his pride in his team's performance, saying, 'I am proud of the players for the desire and focus they showed out there in what was a very tough game.'
