This will change on Tuesday as Norrie attempts to end Sinner's 19-match winning streak and reach the quarterfinals in Madrid for the first time. Norrie expressed his excitement about the upcoming match, stating that he needs to focus on his own game despite Sinner's current confidence and impressive form. After a grueling near three-hour battle against Tomas Machac in the second round, Norrie managed to overcome Tirante in straight sets.
The Argentine player, ranked 75th in the world, proved competitive but was unable to create break points on Norrie's serve. In another notable match, Coco Gauff, ranked third in the world, fought off illness to defeat Sorana Cirstea and advance to the last 16. Gauff struggled with a stomach virus, vomiting into a bin during the second set, but persevered to claim a 4-6, 7-5, 6-1 victory.
Several players at the tournament have been battling a bug, including Iga Swiatek, who retired from her match against Ann Li on Saturday due to illness. Gauff hopes to recover in time for her fourth-round clash against 13th seed Linda Noskova.
