The LIV Golf tournament scheduled for June in Louisiana has been postponed, according to a joint statement released by the state's governor and secretary. The Saudi-backed circuit is working with local officials to find a new date for the event later in the year. Initially set for June 25-28 at Bayou Oaks at City Park, concerns about the FIFA World Cup's impact on attendance and viewership, as well as issues with high temperatures and course conditions, contributed to the decision.
A new date is being explored for the fall. The state has already paid $3.2m in accordance with the contract, with LIV expected to return most of the state incentive funds, except for $2m invested in upgrades for City Park. The postponement comes amid reports that LIV Golf may lose its funding and speculation about the breakaway league's future. PGA Tour CEO Brian Rolapp has mentioned considering new pathways for LIV Golf players to regain membership, but analyst Paul McGinley believes these players will face significant challenges in returning to the PGA Tour or DP World Tour.
