The Leeds Rhinos delivered an impressive performance, scoring eight tries to overpower the Catalans Dragons 46-4 at Headingley, thereby maintaining their position at the top of the Betfred Super League. Meanwhile, Hull FC achieved a resounding victory at Castleford. The Rhinos' win marked their seventh victory in nine matches this season, solidifying their two-point lead at the summit.
Ash Handley initiated the scoring with a try within the first two minutes, followed by tries from Maika Sivo and Ryan Hall, which contributed to a 16-0 lead at halftime. The second half saw Danny Levi, Cooper Jenkins, Brodie Croft, and Hall score four tries within a 16-minute span for the Rhinos, while Catalans struggled to respond. Although Leo Darrelatour managed to get on the scoreboard for Catalans late in the game, James McDonnell ensured the Rhinos had the final say in their dominant display. Catalans' disappointing performance was reflective of their inconsistent season, as they remain mid-table.
In another match, Andy Last began his second stint as Hull FC's interim head coach with a convincing 50-10 win over the Castleford Tigers. Tries from Jake Arthur, Tom Briscoe, Davy Litten, and Connor Bailey put Hull FC 20-6 ahead at halftime.
Further tries from Lewis Martin, Litten, Zak Hardaker, Bailey, Cade Cust, and Yusuf Aydin sealed the victory. Hardaker added six conversions and a penalty to the score. Krystian Mapapalangi scored twice for Castleford in the heavy defeat, just a week after their surprise win over Wigan Warriors. Last's first interim stint in 2020 saw him secure eight victories from 14 games, and he will aim to replicate this success to move Hull up the table before Steve McNamara takes over in 2027.
