Norrie dominated the first set but faced a match point in the second, which he failed to capitalize on, forcing a decider. He trailed 5-3 in the final set but broke back when Machac was serving for the match, ultimately taking the tiebreaker.
Norrie secured a 6-2 6-7 (6-8) 7-6 (7-5) victory, describing it as one of his favorite matches. 'I felt the ball well in the first set, but it was tough to keep up with him in the second. I had to dig deep in the third set when I was down a break,' Norrie said.
He will face either Thiago Agustin Tirante next after the Argentine eliminated 15th-seeded American Tommy Paul. Meanwhile, Boulter lost 6-4 6-4 to Pegula, failing to join Norrie in the third round. World No 1 Jannik Sinner came back from a set down to defeat France's Benjamin Bonzi 6-7 (6-8) 6-1 6-4, extending his winning streak to 18 matches.
Australian Open champion Elena Rybakina recovered from a difficult start to beat Romania's Elena Gabriela Ruse 4-6 6-3 7-5, while Coco Gauff secured a convincing 6-3 6-0 victory over Leolia Jeanjean to reach the third round.
