Livingston, who are bottom of the Scottish Premiership, claimed a much-needed 2-0 victory at St Mirren to boost their survival hopes. The visitors struggled in the first half, with St Mirren's emergency keeper Ross Sinclair making several key saves, but improved after the break.
An own goal from Alex Gogic in the 67th minute gave Livingston the lead, before substitute Scott Pittman sealed the win with a strike in the 80th minute. The result moves Livingston nine points behind Kilmarnock, who are in the relegation play-off zone, with four post-split fixtures remaining. St Mirren, meanwhile, are only two points ahead of Kilmarnock. Livingston's win was their second league victory of the season, following a 2-0 win over Falkirk on August 9.
The match was marked by a high-energy start, with Sinclair making several key saves, including a curling shot from Joel Nouble in the seventh minute. Livingston's keeper Jerome Prior also made several impressive saves, including a fine stop from Jonah Ayunga's powerful drive in the 27th minute.
The game swung in Livingston's favor in the second half, with Gogic's own goal giving them the lead. Pittman's strike sealed the win, leaving St Mirren stunned. As the game edged into nine added minutes, Saints captain Mark O'Hara struck the woodwork from 20 yards, but Livingston held out for a long-awaited win. St Mirren interim coach Craig McLeish urged his team to stick together, saying, 'We can start moaning at each other, we can start nipping at each other, or we can stick together as a group.' Livingston boss Marvin Bartley praised his players, saying, 'I'm delighted for the players, I know there's been a massive pressure on them, mentally it's been really, really tough.'
