Emma Raducanu has announced her withdrawal from the Madrid Open, citing her ongoing recovery from post-viral symptoms. The British No 1 has also pulled out of recent WTA Tour events in Miami and Linz, prioritizing her rehabilitation after falling ill in Romania. Raducanu, who also skipped Great Britain's Billie Jean King Cup qualifier, has resumed training and is hopeful of competing in the Rome tournament in early May. Her last match was a third-round loss to Amanda Anisimova at Indian Wells on March 8.

Raducanu acknowledged a lack of power in her game and is working to regain her form. Since parting ways with coach Francisco Roig in January, she has been informally training with Mark Petchey.

Raducanu's next opportunity to compete on clay will be at the Italian Open in Rome, starting May 5, followed by tournaments in Strasbourg and Rabat leading up to the French Open. Her withdrawal from the Madrid Open follows those of other high-profile players, including Carlos Alcaraz, Novak Djokovic, and Barbora Krejcikova.
