In a remarkable turnaround, Castleford, who had been struggling in the league, delivered an impressive second-half performance to defeat Wigan at the Brick Community Stadium. Following a dismal 34-0 loss to Wakefield in their previous league game, Castleford silenced the home crowd with an early try from Krystian Mapapalangi, courtesy of a swift break down the left, with Tom Weaver successfully converting.
Wigan, seeking to draw level with the league leaders, were denied a try in the 16th minute when Jai Field was tackled into touch by Mikaele Ravalawa. The visitors took an early lead, but Wigan eventually got on the board with a spectacular diving try from Dayon Sambou in the 24th minute, with Adam Keighran adding the extras.
The Warriors then took the lead when Zach Eckersley scored after a high kick from Jack Farrimond was knocked down by Sambou, and a subsequent penalty from Keighran made it 14-6 just before half-time. Castleford regrouped after the restart, with Jack Ashworth scoring down the left in the 45th minute, and an improvised kick through from Mapapalangi allowed him to score another try, putting the visitors back in front. The Tigers maintained their momentum as George Lawler scored a fourth try, with Weaver's conversion extending the lead to 10 points.
Although a video review ruled out another try from Weaver for obstruction, and Wigan successfully challenged a late penalty, Castleford closed out a well-deserved victory. This win marks a significant turnaround for Castleford, who had been struggling at the bottom of the table.
