Ruby White, a World U19 champion and four-time European champion at the age group level, secured her first senior national title with a flyweight victory over Madi Gittens of Box Club.
White, who boxes out of Sturminster Newton, extended her impressive winning streak with a unanimous decision win over Gittens, remaining unbeaten in over 60 contests. 'I'm thrilled to have proved people wrong by winning this tournament in my first year as a senior,' White said in an interview with Sky Sports. 'I believe my determination and strong work ethic are the keys to my success. I want it more than anyone else, and I'm willing to put in the extra effort to be the best.' Billy Macey, meanwhile, became a two-time national champion in the men's flyweight division after his opponent, Yusuf Uddin, was disqualified and then shoved the referee.
'Regardless of the outcome, it's essential to maintain a sportsmanlike demeanor,' Macey noted. 'Win or lose, you must conduct yourself with dignity and respect.' Other notable winners included Adekali Kargbo, who dethroned reigning 90kg champion Akinola Tijani, and Clinton Achusim, who claimed the super-heavyweight title in a closely contested bout. The tournament also featured several GB boxers, including Joe Turner, who prevailed in a high-class 62.5kg final. Turner expressed his confidence in becoming a world champion as a professional, stating, 'I know I'm destined for greatness, and I'll keep pushing forward until I achieve my goal.' The GB squad is set to compete in the first World Boxing Cup event of the year, taking place in Brazil, with athletes such as Sacha Hickey, Lauren Mackie, and Chantelle Reid representing the women's team, and Ellis Trowbridge, Will Hewitt, and Teagn Stott leading the men's line-up.
