Liverpool striker Hugo Ekitike will miss the remainder of the season and the World Cup after suffering a severe Achilles injury. The 23-year-old was forced to leave the game during the first half of Liverpool's Champions League loss to Paris Saint-Germain due to the injury. Following scans, it was confirmed that Ekitike had ruptured his Achilles tendon.
As a result, he is expected to be sidelined for at least six months, with a possible absence of up to nine months. France head coach Didier Deschamps expressed his support for Ekitike, stating that the player's disappointment is immense but he is confident Ekitike will regain his top form. Ekitike's injury is a significant blow to Liverpool, who are currently fifth in the Premier League and aiming to secure a spot in next season's Champions League. The striker had scored 19 goals for Liverpool and France this season after joining from Eintracht Frankfurt for £79m last summer.
His absence will be deeply felt, especially with the team's history of injuries this season, including those to Alexander Isak, Florian Wirtz, and other key players.
