Joel Tomkins has announced his departure from Catalans Dragons, citing personal reasons for his decision. After nearly a year at the helm, Tomkins found the distance from his family to be a significant challenge. Following a brief period back home, he opted to leave the club after just seven games into the Super League season, with the team currently sixth in the standings.
Originally, Tomkins took on the role as an interim coach after Steve McNamara's departure but was soon appointed as the permanent head coach. Tomkins expressed his appreciation for the experience and friendships formed during his tenure, stating, 'I leave the club a better coach than when I arrived.' However, he found it difficult to be away from his family for an extended period. Tomkins had been absent from the club's last three fixtures, fueling speculation about his potential exit. Ryan Sheridan, along with assistant coaches Micky McIlorum and Mitchell Pearce, will assume the role of interim head coach, starting with the upcoming game against Warrington Wolves on April 18.
Sky Sports will continue to broadcast every Super League game live this season.
