Defending Premier League champion Luke Humphries faces an uphill battle to secure a top-four spot and a place in the Play-Offs at London's O2 on May 28. Currently seventh in the table with 11 points after 10 weeks, Humphries is still seeking his first nightly victory.
A recent 6-5 loss to leader Jonny Clayton in Brighton, where Clayton sealed the win with a bullseye in a last-leg decider, has added to the pressure. Humphries then suffered a last-16 exit at the Player Championship 9 in Wigan, with Chris Dobey claiming his second title of 2026. His next challenge comes against home favorite Gian van Veen in Rotterdam. Despite his struggles, Humphries remains optimistic about his chances, citing his strong average in the Premier League this year as a positive.
However, with only six nights left to gain enough points, time is running out for the world No 2 to turn his season around. Michael Bridge and Chris Murphy discussed Humphries' prospects on the Love The Darts podcast, with Bridge stating that Humphries is not as dominant as he once was but still capable of going on a run.
Murphy believes that while it's not panic time yet, Humphries needs to win nights, not just matches, to propel himself into the Play-Off spots.
