In a surprising turn of events, Castleford, who had been struggling in the league, delivered an outstanding performance in the second half to claim a 24-14 victory over Wigan at the Brick Community Stadium. Following a dismal 34-0 loss to Wakefield in their previous league game, which left them at the bottom of the table, the Tigers made a strong start with an early try from Krystian Mapapalangi, courtesy of a swift break down the left flank, and Tom Weaver successfully converted the attempt. Wigan, seeking to level with the league leaders, appeared poised to score in the 16th minute when Jai Field broke through, but a brilliant defensive tackle by Mikaele Ravalawa forced him into touch behind the line before he could ground the ball.
The home team's support was momentarily silenced, but Wigan soon got on the board in the 24th minute with an athletic diving try from Dayon Sambou in the corner, after the ball had been worked across the line, and Adam Keighran successfully slotted over the extras from a tight angle. The Warriors, who had narrowly lost to Wakefield in the Challenge Cup quarter-final, then took the lead when a high kick from Jack Farrimond was knocked down by Sambou, allowing Zach Eckersley to score, and a penalty from Keighran made it 14-6 just before half-time. Castleford regrouped at the restart, with Jack Ashworth powering over down the left in the 45th minute, and an improvised kick through from Mapapalangi saw him barge past Field to score another try, putting the visitors back in front.
The Tigers maintained their momentum as George Lawler broke through three Wigan defenders to score a fourth try just before the hour mark, with Weaver's conversion extending the lead to 10 points. Although a video review ruled out another try from Weaver for obstruction in the build-up, and Wigan successfully challenged a late penalty for tackling without the ball, Castleford closed out a well-deserved victory as the clock ticked down.
