Emma Raducanu will not be competing in the Madrid Open, citing her ongoing recovery from an illness she contracted in Romania in early February. The British No 1 has also withdrawn from the WTA Tour events in Miami and Linz, prioritizing her rehabilitation. Raducanu, who last played at Indian Wells in March, is currently back in training and is hopeful of participating in the Rome tournament in May.
Her recent performance at Indian Wells was affected by a lack of power, which she acknowledged was a contributing factor to her defeat. Since parting ways with coach Francisco Roig in January, Raducanu has been working informally with Mark Petchey to regain her form. The Italian Open, scheduled to start on May 5, will be Raducanu's next opportunity to compete on clay, followed by tournaments in Strasbourg and Rabat leading up to the French Open. Raducanu joins a list of high-profile players, including Carlos Alcaraz, Novak Djokovic, and Barbora Krejcikova, who have also withdrawn from the Madrid Open.
