Following her defeat to Lani Daniels in New York, Shadasia Green underwent treatment for a brain hemorrhage. The bout, which was part of the undercard for Alycia Baumgardner's match against Bo Mi Re Shin at the Madison Square Garden Theater, saw Green competing for the unified IBF and WBO super-middleweight titles against Daniels, a former heavyweight champion. The referee intervened at the start of the ninth round after Daniels landed a series of shots, and Green was subsequently removed from the ring on a stretcher. In a social media post, Green revealed, "I lost consciousness due to a brain bleed.
However, I am currently in the ICU and on the path to recovery. I will return to claim what is mine, 100 percent." Green had previously achieved a major upset by defeating Britain's Savannah Marshall to become a unified world champion, making her a potential opponent for multi-weight undisputed champion Claressa Shields. Green expressed her gratitude, stating, "I would like to extend my sincerest appreciation to those who expressed concern and to those who recognized that something was amiss during the fight." She also thanked her promoter, Nakisa Bidarian, and Most Valuable Promotions for their support during her hospitalization.
Most Valuable Promotions released a statement saying, "We are working closely with Shadasia and her family, and we would like to collectively thank the New York State Athletic Commission, Madison Square Garden, and the hospital for their exceptional care and leadership."
