Championship Clubs Vote Against Introducing VAR Challenge System

English Football League clubs have rejected a proposal to introduce a VAR challenge system for managers in the Championship. The idea, put forward by English football's refereeing governing body, PGMO, was presented to EFL clubs at their annual meeting last month, but they have opted against implementing it. As a result, the EFL will continue to use goal-line technology in the Championship, but not VAR, next season. Meanwhile, the Premier League will retain VAR, despite a recent survey showing that 75% of fans are against its use and 90% believe it has not improved the matchday experience. The survey, conducted by the Football Supporters' Association, also found that 91% of fans think VAR has harmed the spontaneity of goal celebrations, and 94% disagree that it makes watching football on TV more enjoyable. In contrast, football's lawmakers have extended VAR's powers, allowing it to be used to check corners and second yellow cards in certain competitions from this summer.
