Joel Tomkins Leaves Catalans Dragons Due to Personal Circumstances

Joel Tomkins has announced his decision to step down as head coach of Catalans Dragons, citing personal reasons for his departure. Having held the position for nearly a year, Tomkins revealed that being away from his family had become increasingly challenging. Following a recent period at home, he made the decision to leave the team after seven games into the Super League season, with the Dragons currently sitting sixth in the standings. Initially appointed as an interim coach after Steve McNamara's departure, Tomkins was later given the permanent role at the club where he spent the latter part of his playing career. In a statement, Tomkins expressed his gratitude for the experience and friendships formed during his time at the club, stating, 'My time at Catalans Dragons over the past 18 months has been a valuable learning experience, both personally and professionally.' However, he acknowledged that the distance from his family had taken a toll. Tomkins will be replaced by Ryan Sheridan, who will take over as interim head coach alongside assistant coaches Micky McIlorum and Mitchell Pearce, starting with their next game against the Warrington Wolves on April 18.
