A new grass-court ATP 250 tournament is set to take place in Milan, Italy, beginning in 2028, with the iconic San Siro stadium as a potential venue. The Italian Tennis and Padel Federation has acquired the rights to the tournament, which was previously held in Brussels.
The event is scheduled to occur every June, and while the exact location is yet to be confirmed, San Siro's massive capacity and northern Italy's climate make it a strong contender. The federation's president, Angelo Binaghi, mentioned that the decision on the venue will be made in due time, considering the success of other stadiums like Real Madrid's Santiago Bernabeu, which will feature practice courts.
Italy has previously hosted a WTA grass-court tournament, and the federation is also set to host the ATP Finals, Davis Cup Finals, and Rome Masters in the coming years. Additionally, plans are underway to install a retractable roof at the Foro Italico, with the goal of elevating the tournament in Rome to a Grand Slam level, rivaling major events like the Australian Open and Wimbledon.
