Under the skilled guidance of jockey Sean Houlihan, Kap Vert demonstrated remarkable composure and jumping ability throughout the race, considering it was only his fifth start over fences. In contrast, Midlands National winner Isaac Des Obeaux struggled with his jumping and ultimately finished fourth after making a critical error early in the home straight. Meanwhile, Git Maker's chances were nearly derailed by a significant mistake almost a mile from the finish, but the horse managed to recover and finish second, narrowly beating favorite Kim Roque.
This victory served as a satisfying consolation for Hobbs and White, who had earlier finished second in the Scottish Champion Hurdle with Captain Hugo, and they will return to Somerset with the substantial £112,000 first prize.
