Andoni Iraola to Depart Bournemouth as Club Shortlists Three Potential Replacements

Bournemouth's head coach Andoni Iraola has announced his decision to leave the club at the end of the season. According to Sky Sports News, former RB Salzburg and Borussia Dortmund manager Marco Rose is among the three candidates being considered to take over as Iraola's successor. Iraola, whose contract expires in three months, has rejected multiple offers to extend his stay with the club, amidst interest from his former club Athletic Club and other Premier League teams. With six games remaining, Iraola will bid farewell to Bournemouth after a record-breaking three-year tenure on the south coast. "The time has come for me to move on," he stated on the club's website. Iraola's final home game will be against Manchester City on May 17, followed by a trip to Nottingham Forest on the last day of the Premier League season. Although Bournemouth attempted to persuade Iraola to stay, they respect his decision, and a mutual understanding remains between the two parties. Discussions about Iraola's future began over 15 months ago, but he preferred to delay meaningful conversations until later in the campaign. The search for a new head coach has been ongoing, with Sky Sports News reporting that Bournemouth has shortlisted three favored candidates. Currently 11th in the standings, Bournemouth could still achieve European qualification, which would be a historic first for the club. They are two points behind seventh place, which would secure a spot in the Conference League next season. Since his appointment in June 2023, Iraola has been a popular figure at Bournemouth, implementing an attacking and dynamic style of football. The club finished ninth in the Premier League last season, earning a record 56 points and breaking their best top-flight return for the second consecutive season. Iraola has had to navigate the sales of key players, including Dean Huijsen, Milos Kerkez, Illia Zabarnyi, Dango Ouattara, and Antoine Semenyo, for a total of £253m. As one of the Premier League's most sought-after coaching prospects, Iraola's next destination is uncertain. Athletic Club is interested in bringing him back to the Basque Country, where he spent 12 years and played over 500 games. However, any decision is expected to be delayed until after the club's presidential elections in May. Other clubs, such as Crystal Palace and Tottenham, have also been linked to Iraola, but they have either moved on to other targets or appointed new managers.
