According to Nigel Mansell, a former Formula 1 world champion, Lewis Hamilton has regained his momentum this season. Hamilton recently ended a 16-month drought without an F1 podium by securing a third-place finish at the Chinese Grand Prix, which marked his first podium finish since joining Ferrari in 2025. The 41-year-old has also shown significant improvement in terms of pace, now being much closer to his teammate Charles Leclerc.
This enhancement can be attributed to the new regulations, which seem to favor Hamilton's driving style. Mansell believes that Hamilton, a seven-time world champion, has the potential to win a race this season. "Lewis is fired up again, and it's fantastic to see him performing at such a high level," Mansell stated. Hamilton credits his improved performance to better mental and physical preparation, which has contributed to his return to form.
When he joined Ferrari last year, the car was not designed with his input, and it did not suit his driving style. However, with the new car this year, Hamilton has been able to work on the simulator and collaborate with engineers to create a vehicle that meets his needs. Mansell, who was involved in several title fights before becoming world champion in 1992, thinks that this year's F1 Drivers' Championship could turn into a two-horse race between Mercedes drivers George Russell and Kimi Antonelli.
He advises Russell to use his experience to win the intra-team battle, emphasizing the importance of focus and authority in achieving success.
