Chelsea manager Liam Rosenior has confessed that he is unaware of the potential consequences the team may face if they fail to qualify for the Champions League. Following a 1-0 home defeat to Manchester United, Chelsea now trails the Red Devils by 10 points and is four points behind fifth-placed Liverpool ahead of their Merseyside derby against Everton. Prior to the match, Cole Palmer stated that he has no intention of leaving Stamford Bridge, emphasizing that qualifying for the Champions League would be beneficial in attracting the necessary players. However, Rosenior admitted that he is uncertain about the impact of missing out on the competition on the team's plans.
'The honest answer is I don't know,' Rosenior said in his post-match press conference. 'We're still fighting, and we will address that situation at the end of the season, whatever the situation is.' Palmer downplayed suggestions that he might leave the club, stressing the importance of qualifying for the Champions League to secure the necessary players to improve the team. With only five Premier League games remaining, Chelsea will rely on teams like Liverpool and Aston Villa slipping up to climb back into the Champions League spots. Rosenior believes that despite the challenges, there is still a chance for the team to qualify for the elite competition.
'It gives us a mountain to climb,' he added. 'It's not insurmountable. We have to go into Brighton with the idea that we have to win that game and kick-start the rest of our season.'
